Boston is unique such that there are more universities and students and faculty than Silicon Valley, San-Francisco, and NYC combined (made up stat, but sure it's true). I feel Boston’s strict Blue Laws are an artifact of parents concern for their freshmen living away from home. The side-effect, everyone suffers equally.
Alternatively, Boston has a 'secret' nightlife consisting of private clubs that would perfectly suit the author.
Of course there is a membership fee; don't complain about that, it's the only way to keep out the riff-raff. I'm sure similar things are done in other cities.

Mr. Muhfuhkuh, (great name btw) I just want to touch on your point about the "neurosurgeon with the most gifted hands". The medical industry is rife with such professionals making large amounts of money; I propose this is part of problem.
Of course surgeons have enormous amounts of knowledge and training, but in the end their customers are sick humans being operated on one at a time. How does this scale? and How is the ROI of the work determined?
What if the customers were mostly coal miners making 40k per year? What I'm getting at is society places to high of a value on human life and this throws certain industries out of whack which society pays for in the end (or we "import" them from places that have a lower value on human life).

patents are forever... don't forget what the gov't considers the most important concept of patents; Taxe$. Patents were designed so the gov't could tax any proceeds gained by selling or licensing the patent. Why would they ever voluntarily get rid of that? Even with your MBA super powers you weren't able to convince a real programmer that your idea was worth 2% of the whole shebang for translating it into binary? I'm afraid that if more MBA types take to implementing their own ideas there will be no more "garbage" filter. But this will be an opportunity for others to improve, hack and thwart the implementation into something "better".

I'm not 100% sure - but they probably discount the fuel because they are getting a delivery that night or next morning. There is a fixed delivery charge which essentially increases the price they pay per gallon for every gallon less they buy. The lowest cost price is achieved if the tank is empty. The customer discount serves as an enticement to those who don't need fuel, but could use a few gallons to top off. Someone on Empty is going to buy it regardless of the discount. The station is still making money and stands to make more if they can get the tank empty. The discount begins to work against itself if everyone waits until discount day to fill up, I suppose the station would recognize this and shift the delivery day to the new "slow" day.
