Interesting! Lightdash introduced data apps yesterday as well. The results look pretty similar. Personally, I’ve always had problems with data apps, because they were kind of messy and difficult to organise/keep updated. With a product like Hex or a lightdash semantic layer behind it, it could work better.
I didn’t find a blog post, but here is a YouTube video and the docs page.
Yes, mainly driven by cost. BigQuery is really unpredictable when dashboards with filters are being used intensively by users. We don’t want to limit our users in their data exploration.
Airbyte is definitely one of the MDS vendors. Plus they have a ton of bugs because their only focus is having the most connectors on the market. A lot of them are broken or badly implemented.
There is also sqlmesh (https://sqlmesh.com/). Pretty new as well. It introduces some interesting concepts. For smaller dbt projects it could be a drop-in replacement as it allows importing dbt projects.
There are browser extensions like PrivacyRedirect (iOS app) and LibRedirect (Chrome, Firefox …), that have the ability to redirect you to alternative reddit frontends (teddit and so on).
This is not how GTM server side works. There is not a single call to Google domains from the client, when GTM server side is set up to its fullest. The config (gtm.js) will be loaded from my subdomain and not googletagmanager.com. Also gtm.js can be renamed.
Posthog as well as Snowplow are open source solutions that can be self hosted. Snowplow is always hosted in your cloud infrastructure even if you use their managed service.
I think the article misses the point on what a billionaire tax and a progressive tax system in general should be about. Tax systems in modern societies are not solely about generating income for the state but to a part also about distributing wealth more fair.
We are coming from a time where the marginal tax rates were between 70% and 90%. Now it‘s under 40%. [1] This is probably one reason why we came to the point were we have to discuss billionaires tax in the first place.
I think this is a very narrow view on what’s possible with the tracking pixel. I can do basic cross device tracking with the help of this pixel as well as personalisation and marketing automation. E.g. More active newsletter readers get sent more newsletters or different marketing offers. Less active subscribers get nudged via personal sounding emails: „What did we do wrong? Do you still want to hear from us?“
Nope, not super screwed at all. Safari even limits http cookies if the cname doesnt match.
„On Safari 14 (requires Big Sur) and on all major iOS and iPadOS 14.2+ browser apps, expiration of cookies set with Set-Cookie HTTP response headers is 7 days at most, if the response originates from a subdomain that has a CNAME alias to a cross-site origin“
In Switzerland there is Pumpipumpe (https://pumpipumpe.ch/en/sticker-en/). They offer stickers to put on your mailbox with tools and sports equipment you have and are willing to share. I believe this could work pretty well in apartment buildings.
For ad profiles: There is Ad Nauseam, which tries to click every single ad that is shown to you in order to pollute your profile.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't understand why I would need to discover new products. Usually I buy products based on a specific need or use case.
