It's so common that I've had it happen on a flight. We were midway over the Atlantic, so we made it to the destination.
It sounded like getting the replacement part is a pain though. They're not just sitting around at every airport. So after they landed they'd have to fly with a cracked windshield to another European country.
If you were to map human population growth against the energy technologies in the table, you would basically see that human population growth bursts with jumps in EROI.
There are a couple of elephants in the room on that table that warrant some discussion.
One is nuclear: the massive jump in EROI it provides and our comparative hesitant/tepid adoption of it.
The other is a lot of the renewables: the massive leap backwards they offer.

This passage/article doesn't make intuitive sense to me here. What in this physical universe is smoothly spread? Only if you average or look at a massive aggregate level, sure. But at each "zoom level" there should be another non-smooth structure, while things at a smaller level smooth out.
It's more or less fractal all the way up and down.
I don't think this challenges our thinking on the cosmos?
Mathematica is probably one of the biggest and most complex commercially available applications that still has an artisanal/craftsman made quality about it.
It’s something special. Maybe a bit of a relic in its distribution (not open source, not that SaaSy), but it’s so well thought out.
