>As a business, it will always be a bad idea to completely rely on another entity outside your control, whose interests are very likely to be misaligned to yours.
I don't think truer words were ever spoken. I just shut down http://NotifyWire.com because I built it against Craigslist (albeit an unwilling entity), but still as Twitter has proven a partner can go from willing to unwilling very quickly.
I'm white, so take what I say with a grain of salt. In all honesty, I feel bad for black people who must always wonder if they're being judged solely on their merits.
That said, I can't think of a better industry for a minority to be in than technology and entrepreneurship. The only color that matters here is green. Skill talks and bullshit walks.
Wish I saw this before I spend hours writing and testing a comet server in C# for IIS. I still can't believe Amazon doesn't have this as a webservice yet.
Still, I wonder how their lib interacts with mobile OSs because running comet in the background for these devices can kill the battery life.
Just got back from my last visit to CR. If I wasn't married I'd seriously consider moving there. Seems like a great place for startups, low burn rate and all.
Revolution makes for strange bed fellows. I'm not sure Egypt is better off, in this case, considering the philosophy of the protesters seems to be "anything is better than this". I have yet to see a clear vision of what "anything" will look like when there's a power vacuum. I hope for the best, but I'm expecting the worst...
Seriously, I'm expecting some kind of brief attempt at communism or heavy handed socialism, followed by complete economic collapse, followed by an Islamic dictatorship.
Everyone bitches about keys until they pour their soul into trying to start a software business. I thought the hacker news crowd contains more value creators and not a bunch of power users complaining about the cost of software. I stand corrected.
1) The cute homepage image is a waste of space and makes no sense for your target market.
2) Having your menu below the fold makes no sense at all. I bet your bounce rate is really high.
3) Pricing page could use some clarity...The images make no sense, the price well, the whole page is unclear.
4) The handwriting on your screenshots make them really hard to read. On some of the screenshots it looks like you have threaded messages, but the threads look like they're inversely indented. First message shouldn't be more indented then following messages.
5) "Small town values bug and issue tracker" Says: is a terrible tag line. Your tag line should say who your targeting and why they should be interested.
"Simple issue tracking for designers" -- If your a designer here's a SIMPLE way to track issues.
"The most powerful issue tracker for manufactures" Says: If your a manufacture, we have a highly configurable system to meet your needs.
Your tag line says: "Meh?"
I think you're trying to stand out with some cute web design, but really you could use a very standard template. You really need to work on WHO should use your service and WHY. Go to woothemes and use wordpress. Websites are a time suck, use a CMS and spend the extra time on your product.
A couple things. First, stop calling a service Rep. Escalate the issue to the president of the company if possible, explain what happened without acting irate. If you are still getting pushed around, do the following:
Clearly document what happened with a concise timeline in a memo. If you believe money was removed from your account without your consent use phrases like "fraudulently removed funds".
At the top of the memo, address it to the president of the company, with the company's address, then add CC addresses for the better business bureau and your state's attorney general's consumer division...bonus if you live in CT or NY.
At the end of the memo state that if your funds aren't returned in 7 days, you'll follow up with a lawsuit in small claims court (check your state's website to make sure your suit will qualify). Print three copies, include all documentation (billing agreements etc...), and send to all three by certified mail.
If they don't respond in 7 days go to the court house and file the lawsuit.
If things get nasty you won't see any money for a while and you'll need to invest about 20 hours into this whole process.
It works though. I've had the attorney general's office step in on my behalf against a CC processing company that crammed my contract. They relented without admitting any wrong doing. I've also won in small claims court twice, it's a fair system and doesn't require a lawyer, but you should have grounds for your dispute as well as a documentation indicating your attempt to remediate the situation out of court.
That sucks, but isn't surprising. You may want to get a lawyer. PayPal has lost or settled several class action lawsuits, so a lawyer might be able to work a discrimination angle and get PayPal's attention just by sending one letter.
While I think he's right on this issue, I also think he'd have no problem with non-government employees doing the same type of checks as the TSA. And for that matter nor would I.
I think airlines should manage their own security. That kind of competition would allow us all to choose. Jet Blue - No body scanners, American - Body Scanners, SouthWest - Mandatory cavity search, etc...
Then I can decide how safe I want to fly vs. how much I want to be humiliated I want to feel. Eventually the market will find the right answer.
When people by my app, they're automatically upgraded on the server and they get an email that says "Just restart the app to complete your account upgrade". I frequently get support emails saying "I never got an activation code!".
Depends completely on the specs of the SSD which vary wildly. Perhaps by the HD model and upgrade it yourself to a corsair P series SSD. I have the P128 and it flies.
