Hikikomori, something I actually aspired to be. I love locking myself in a room with my computer equipment and not come out for days. Unfortunately, I have two or three friends that virtually drag me out to hang out with them.
The ironic part is that I'm actually the type of person that hates to socialize with people so I'm not really sure how the hell I ended up with friends that love to drag me out to hang out with them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not depressed, I'm an extremely happy person. I just prefer to be along for the most part working on a software project. I do like to be around people, like in a library, but not necessarily interact with them.
This anime is very relevant [1]. The main protagonists is actually my hero and I kept saying to myself that that is whom I want to be.
What exactly causes this, I believe that I'm way too sensitive to hypocrisy, bad temper, and mean people. I've been burned too many times by people that pretend to be nice. People with bad attitude really get me depressed.
My dad is 75 and my mom is 73 and they are quite strong and active still. I don't actually think of them as old. In fact, my mom behaves more like a teenager in that she loves hanging out. Morning coffee or afternoon tea gossiping with friends or her kids is the best for her.
My dad has his own ritual. He wakes up around 6AM, goes to Dunking Donuts to have coffee with a croissant and then goes about his day to manage three apartment buildings.
>>Also: If the Boston bombings was the final straw, then WHY ON EARTH wasn't 9/11 the final straw? Several orders of magnitude worse of a cock-up than Boston!
They've been supposedly honing their intelligence skills since then. By now they should be way better at this considering all the additional budget they are getting and by the simple fact that they should have a lot more experience at this.
My father, a man of 75 years old in the last couple of months had been mentioning that all our calls were being recorded. I dismissed him as just paranoid. After all, I'm the software developer, I'm the techie in our house. I know best, I would tell myself. Now I feel quite stupid. How could I have been so naive in believing that our government would never do this. This is the land of the free after all right? I've learned to never trust our government. At least that is a good thing that came out of this.
edit: The funny thing is that right now he is having a small problem with somebody because they had a verbal agreement over the phone about how much a repair would cost. Both their memories seem to remember different things. It is only a couple hundred dollars but my father said that if were in the order of $50,000 or more he would get a lawyer so that the conversation he had with the man could be retrieved to prove my father was right. I told him that that would never happen because, mmm..., because the government would not want to give it to anybody else. At that point I remembered that I had already been wrong once so I could easily be wrong again.
And yet they could not stop the Boston bombing. Even after the Russian government had specifically told them that the older brother could be a terrorist. I've lost all respect for them. It tells me that they don't really know what they are doing.
