While I totally appreciate the generosity of Macro, I totally condemn Macro's speaking for the entire buyer community as in "We will not hold you to it" & "Please let us give you more money".
For Allan, money sure is good but reputation is still better.
I pay for my good old Philips radio and philips benefits from the sale. CBC can not demand Philips to not sell radios.
I pay for my smartphone, which has software to listen to radio and Apple, Samsung or someone benefits from the sale. CBC doesn't demand them to exclude CBC.
Now if I choose to pay for another software and the developer benefits from it, what interest does CBC have here that they they don't have in previous situations ?
The matter of the fact is that Hardware/Software is different from Content. Period. Hardware/Software facilitates content. While the CBC radio content itself is free, the Hardware/Software can sell and for a profit.
oh yeah, I have seen my friends who would kill for Apple logo'd products. I like good Apples but can't really subscribe to idea of buying them at so much premium.
Let alone $250, I will be really frustrated to buy a tablet(Apples included) for more than $99 since The Firesale.
Disclaimer: I had bought two iphones in the past at full price. But not anymore !
ok you are saying that HP wants to loose less when loosing is inevitable. If I go by this theory, this obligation to components and contract may better be reasonably big.
Because small numbers in neither component levels nor contract obligations, won’t make a huge loss. I assume that small numbers in either of the above two factors are negligible relative to the original firesale losses.
But If it is a reasonably big number, then I am waiting to buy my touchpad.
But here is my dilemma - Now that the only webOS tablet is selling for so less, won't people get used to this pricing and take it for granted that webOS tablets are damn affordable ? Even if the user base is won, I think it is going to be relatively a small size compared to that of Apple's or Google's.
Will hardware companies risk this negative pricing to make webOS tablets ? Software companies already have two big platforms in iOS and Android. ok, Blackberry too albeit a very small platform. Will they want to do another platform ?
when I say support proffession, I mean 'A proffession which supports other Proffessions'. I did not mean it as 'A proffession which supports lives or people'.
Respect and money are two different things. Armed forces command great respect and little money. Doctors command good respect and earn good money. But Lawyers command little respect but earn lots of money.
Doctors save lives, Soldiers defend lives, Lawyers win you lives, Teachers build lives. All of them impact lives, This is where respect comes from. And Software programmers ? They make software which at best speeds up, accurate up other primary professions. In that sense, Software programmer supports the other primary professions. I say software programming is a support profession.
And then money ? Money comes from the value provided by a profession to people’s lives. As of today, Software makes our lives easier but does not add much of a value to life as other primary professions do. Software profession helps but not create/add value to life by itself.
Even for a support profession, It takes time to mature and join the big league of primary professions. Software programming is relative new entrant in league of professions. It can wait until the day it will impact lives in a way we have not known before rather than helping already known ways !
