If a large company installs data onfuscating kill switches in the event of a police raid, it's fair to believe that it's not to protect customer data.

There can be both government oversight to bring the issues to light, and consumer action based on those issues.

Government findings and/or fines do not affect the bottom line enough to change behaviors. Only sufficient numbers of consumers willing to change buying decisions will ever stop corporations from doing things that they shouldn't.

Kinda surprised that no one has pointed out than an I7 is grossly overpowered for "spreadsheets and web apps". Seems better to get something that has long battery life with a CPU that uses less watts.
