I think this shouldn't be taken too seriously, from what I understand it's an exploration of what's possible with today's LLMs.
You're right to talk about the trend though, because what it shows is how the cost of re-writing well covered project has completely crashed, so that in itself is a learning.
Economic development is great and I'm all for it, but it shouldn't be done at any cost. I quite like our atmosphere, ideally with less than 400ppm of CO2.
We're finally seeing signs of economic development decoupling from primary energy consumption, there are positive signs.
I find that it's just a shame to be so close to energy abundance - through renewables - to only be set back by the installation of "temporary" gas turbines. The economic incentive is so great that delaying the datacenters in order to power them cleanly isn't even considered: there's no incentive to do so. This may sound a little alarmist, but if it's GW of capacity in 2028, it's TW in the mid 30s.
I'd much rather live in a heavily compute-constrained world for the next 5 years or so than in a world that keeps increasing its gas consumption.
There's just no way to force our incentive to align with preserving our climate, and it's making me extremely depressed.

I'm hoping the kind of gas turbines being installed on these datacenters are capable of quickly responding to a load change, meaning the primary source of energy could be solar during the day and complement when there isn't enough energy.
But I haven't looked into where these datacenter are being placed, I'm assuming that although solar is cheap now, the surface needed would make the purchase of nearby land probably not worth it. These new categories of datacenters are becoming very energy dense...
I think this is a misconception of how businesses are working. Maybe one person Vs another would yield a slightly different trajectory, but fundamentally, if you want to see why a leader takes X or Y decision, you have to look at what are the incentives.
Meta has a lot of personal data, what are the incentives? Selling it, use it to train AI, sell products to capture more data.

They don't care if anyone is using a fake ID, they care that they can send the hot potato back to the American government. That gives them a legitimate "not my fault if people can make fake ids. In fact it's your fault"
It still lowers the bar to have an interactive encyclopedia that can diagnose your issue at hand. Maybe you can divide your team by two, or reduce your development time.

With AI we're about to have a trust crisis (I'll explain in a sec), so if we extrapolate it very far, we could see a world where nobody trusts anything displayed on a device, which is essentially what you describe but in a world with electricity still running.
The trust issue: we already see hacker news members accusing each other of being LLMs, we already see legitimate images being immediately put in the AI category, and AI images and videos being shared as if the truth. We already see signs of infosec changing forever, with flaws found in SSL libraries that makes you wonder how trusty that little padlock next to the URL will become, we already see operating systems having to patch faster than they can.
With all that you get to wonder how much you can trust the pixels you see on your device, and how much we'll collectively trust them in the future. That leads you to trust your neighbours way more than your social media feed, which frankly, may have a positive impact on society over the long run, despite a very painful transition.
That's under the hypothesis that AI leads us to experience a trust crisis, which isn't a given.
