Joan’s parent company, Visionect[1], also produces the Place & Play, a 13” or 36” eInk display[2]. Some guy created a rotating newspaper frame from it[3]. Looks quite amazing, and it has a 1 year battery life.
I moved with my girlfriend from our apartment in Amsterdam to her family holiday home on an island in South-Eastern Europe. We save a decent amount of cash (our rent+utilities was 2000€ alone) and live an amazing life here.

Django abstracts away a bit too much, if you ask me. For a simple REST API it's complete overkill. I prefer Flask or Falcon[0], in which you don't just get better performance[1] but also a lower level of control.
You still really think that? I am not so sure. A self-hosted blog, e.g. Ghost, is much more user-friendly. The amount of popups before you can read an article on Medium is embarrassing. That "You have a moment?" is really getting old. Besides, I can't remember last time I read a quality article on there.
I am wearing one right now and it’s amazing - Especially it’s battery life (easily 1 month+). I get loads of compliments about this watch. The feature set is just enough for my needs, even though I considered getting an Apple Watch. The app is also more than decent.
I make 100K$/year with bonus and holiday allowance in Amsterdam as an medior engineer at a medium-sized company. I pay roughly 50% tax. Expats here pay 30% tax for the first 5 years, so their take-home pay is significantly higher. A senior engineer at the same company earns roughly 130-160k.
Senior engineers here that work remotely for US companies can earn upward of 250k USD, but I know very few that do - and you need to enjoy remote work. Other option would be working at a bank or insurance company.
I remain baffled some people just take whatever Apple shoves down their throat. It's a design _atrocity_. Just like Apple Pencil V1, iPhone 4 antenna issues, iPhone 6 bending screens, butterfly insanity on the MacBooks. I don't buy this 'you're holding it wrong'-attitude anymore.
And it's also completely different from removing a headphone jack – you could actually see that as a form of progress. But charging a mouse without being able to use it – try and convince me that is progress.
You would be surprised. I work at an airline fraud prevention platform, and the legal hassle with credit card/loyalty fraud (which is what this would be) is so complex that fraudsters are often not charged with fraud. They just go ahead and provide their real information. Or change it right before takeoff at the airport, leaving the fraud analysts with no time.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Maintaining some artificial hierarchy of grief (akin to 'but I loved mom more than you') is toxic at best.
I lost my dad at age 20 and in the months after was mostly surrounded by friends that had no idea what losing a parent felt like. In their attempts, I never felt I had the right to discredit their grief as being lesser, be it for an ex-girlfriend or a dog they grew up with.
