We can't relax. Solving problems on tight deadlines means that we are inherently paranoid about doomsday scenario. But at the same time, no need to be overly pessimistic :)

I have worked on the same recommendation systems. It's also the most often oncall issue. The problem is mostly due to lag in event processing (especially orders).

The problem is that AI is infinitely scalable. Yes, I can get inspired by your writing, but I won't be able to replace you by churning out huge number of articles. AI can.
Scale changes (and should change) how things are done.
I completely agree (as another employee of FAANG). It's ridiculously hard to do anything against policy once it's set, and trust me, the policies are set. Media overplays a lot of things which aren't just there.
The sad reality is people are very predictable, even with basic data.
