I work in Sweden and struggle to consider working elsewhere. The paternity leave was amazing and really allowed time to form a strong bond with the kids and didn't affect seniority at work. Flexible hours mean that I start early but can dive away at 15:00 to pick up the kids from day care. If the kids are unwell, I can take care of them without any problem. All the meanwhile having a challenging rewarding tech job. The thing is that the company I work for is just like all the other companies in the area, so it makes for nice work life balance and a pretty happy family :)

I'm not sure the 'there's no such thing as bad publicity' works when you're aiming to come across as a voice of reason in the software community.

I think the discussion could have been nipped in the bud if it was described similarly to your summation - a necessary business decision rather than good software practice.

I'd like to think I'm in the same boat here. I understand that there's no such thing as a free lunch. But the unskippable 30 second ad for a short video was the end of the line.

Nice side project!

A dual citizenship feature might be a nice touch - for instance travelling to Brazil is easier on a European passport than an Australian. So it would be great to know what to use when.

One bug report: On the one page - Australian citizens require a visa to visit Canada. Australian citizens do not require a visa to visit Canada.

I wonder if it actually works in that political direction. If I knew my preferred candidate was down perhaps I'd be more determined to get down the polling station. Conversely if he was clearly ahead, perhaps I'd be more inclined to skip voting. ( I'm talking theoretically, I always vote, it's the law here)

Not having used the API, but seeing that does use movie information (using rotten tomatoes). I think that it's going to be difficult to claim fair use of quite a distinctive acronym in the same realm.

Paying a lawyer for an hour to confirm this will save the author of the API time and effort.

Rename it and move on, be your own brand. There's no need to coattail if you have a great product.

I don't think stackoverflow is a particularly useful metric. If there is a simple easy to use and install language with good documentation, examples and a forum/mailing list with a small number of new users, it will be much lower on an equally as popular language with complex syntax and no community with a larger proportion of novice users.

Stackoverflow really fills the gap if there is no good alternative, it's a reflection of the ecosystem around the language than its popularity.

Perhaps the number of new projects or commits in a given language would be more indicative of a language's true popularity. (Not that it's a perfect metric either)

One of Buffett's mantras is stick to what you know.

He stated that he won't invest in tech companies as he doesn't know them.

I'm sure there was a man that knew horse and carriages, and didn't know anything about cars.
