Its a news based real-time argument site. We provide content or the user can add them as well. We encourage users to take stands (positions) on the piece and others to challenge that position and have a real-time (chat mode) arguments. It would be great if HN people can give some honest feedback on what you think of the site, its usability, design etc. I can face cruel feedback...I think.
You cannot,IMO. Even if you outsource to a sub-contractor in a country with a strong IP regime it is probably not worth your time, money and effort to pursue infringement. The best way to protect your IP with sub-contractors is to not give them access to your IP.
From being a vigilant free society to becoming a Stasi(former E.German police that had a dossier on almost all its Citizens) controlled authoritarian society where neighbors spy on each other is not that big a step. We have already lost a lot of freedom via the Patriot Act and the thought of losing more is scary. The price we pay for freedom is that terrorists could one day exploit that freedom to attack us.
How do these guys get away with spouting this crap and get away with it. It is not as if all GOP voters are rich. I know several Republicans who are nowhere near the $250k wage bracket but still spout the tax cut for the top 3% bull$#. What is also lost in the noise level is that this is the original tax-cut by GWB that is expiring not a new Obama tax. In fact Obama is retaining the tax-cut for the bottom 97%. People are stupid, they don't read and formulate their own thinking anymore, they just listen and follow the advice of super rich radio talk show hosts.
Good advice if you can do it. As a not quite starving entrepreneur I hardly have time to keep up with my life than to write a blog. I did take this advice a while back and kept a dedicated WP blog for a couple of months but like any startup it needs continuous care and handling. Then building an audience takes time, you have to comment on other blogs and hope they swing by and be sociable. With hundreds of millions of blogs, Twitter and FB pages out there you start to wonder if anyone at all will come.
I generally agree with you that there is no direct evidence of "tribute collection." However, if you look at the most recent example of Iraq, we could make the case that the U.S. has placed permanently placed its military in a country with a lot of oil reserves and could assure itself of cheap plentiful supply from not only Iraq but from the region. Putting my conspiracy theory hat on I would say that the Iraq war was not about WMDs but using it as a excuse to go after the oil reserves.
For being greedy consumers. Using up the mineral, natural and other self sustaining resources at a tremendous pace and asking them to find a solution for the environmental problems we created and are unable to solve.
Though these guys have an outsize influence on Web 2.0 apps there are still enough angels out there to minimize the effect of any possibility of collusion among a few angels. If that was what the meeting was about, which I doubt. I think this is a storm in a teacup. The government has enough things to worry about in an economy going south to do anything here.
I find it difficult to believe that a bunch of smart investors would sit in a public restaurant and discuss how to restrain each other from making costly investments. It would have been much easier to do it someone's home and not be noticed..there's just too much at stake.
Usually it is when the investors pull the plug is when the failing startup goes dark.
But for a self funded entrepreneur it is easier said than done. After spending a year or two working long hours, the separation between a private life and the working life is non-existent and the urge to put in just a bit more time and effort is inescapable.
