White Americans love their weed. As a young Latino growing up in the ghetto it was hammered into my head that If I wanted to be successful I had to stay away from drugs and alcohol. And in the ghetto this correlation turns out to be very true since pretty much all losers do drugs and drink a lot.
Then I went to a state college and went to work in corporate America after graduation. To my surprise I realized that the majority of white American kids do weed and drink lots of alcohol. It made me realize that because they are middle class white Americans it means that they can afford to do stuff like that and still come out ahead compared to somebody in the ghetto.
In the ghetto, if you want to move ahead you cannot really afford to waste your time with weed or alcohol. You are already behind in your education level probably because of the crappy school system in your neighborhood so you do not want to add another problem to an already problematic situation.
As an anecdote, I cannot study in total silence. I find the silence extremely distracting. I must have the TV on in order for me to focus. Even the random noises in a cafe or a library helps my concentration. Some people call this white noise needed for concentration.
Wow, it seems that Mexico is the only Spanish speaking Latin American country that can sell android apps. And of all the countries in the continent of America only Brazil and Mexico (besides the USA, obviously) can sell in the Android play store. I guess it sucks to be from Latin America.
Disclaimer: I'm from Latin America but currently residing in NYC.
>>If you truly understand the OpenGL programmable pipeline you understand graphics programming in general and should have to spend little time picking up a new API. Just like how you should be able to learn a new programming language with ease if you have enough experience.
This is very true. However, I rather not spend anytime on this if I don't have to. What you are underestimating though are the quirkiness of the new API that could waste you hours and hours. i.e. Some graphics rendering may not look quite right because some unexpected limitations, etc. etc. Finding work-arounds for all those tiny quirks can be time consuming Time that you'd rather spend on the product itself.
It doesn't really seems as simple or obvious as you make it seem. The engineering that went into building those wheels with the blades in the middle seems quite impressive and not something that your average joe would be able to design and build.

The competition has no choice but to spend all their time porting and keeping up, time that they can't spend writing new features. Look closely at the software landscape. The companies that do well are the ones who rely least on big companies and don't have to spend all their cycles catching up and reimplementing and fixing bugs that crop up only on Windows XP. The companies who stumble are the ones who spend too much time reading tea leaves to figure out the future direction of Microsoft. People get worried about .NET and decide to rewrite their whole architecture for .NET because they think they have to. Microsoft is shooting at you, and it's just cover fire so that they can move forward and you can't, because this is how the game is played, Bubby.

>>but it looks like the next generation of indies will be learning the PS4/OpenGL toolchain instead.
Thank God! I really do not want to spend any time learning Microsoft specific frameworks/APIs. I'm already familiar OpenGL and I rather spend my time working on the game itself rather then having to learn new APIs.
Write simulators that use the mathematics you want to learn. One way or another you will learn the mathematics if you do this. A game engine with bone animation is great for really getting familiar with 3D vector mathematics. Electrical circuits simulator and a Physics engine are great follow ups. Fluid dynamics is another one. A symbolic math engine will get you even more familiar with lots of other pure mathematics.
Honestly speaking I've only built the circuits simulator, partially built the symbolic math engine and currently working on the physics engine. I have learnt a great deal though.
Not trying to mess with you nor troll you but I got a bad vibe about you just from reading your comment. I wonder if the girl got a similar vibe.
One more thing, beauty is on the eye of the beholder and true beauty is within. It sounds cliche but as I've gotten older I've continued to be surprised that this is true. In reality is a combination of both that adds up to make a person truly beautiful.

It took me a long time to realize this.
