One thing I took from mythical man month was that having an architect with a clear vision is necessary for success. The architect isn't perfect. He will make mistakes and he will reject good ideas from time to time. But design by committee has the risk of doing development without a clear vision.
In all seriousness, I don't tell new members of my team about the CLI. We use Visual Studio and the VS UI plugin only supports add,commit,push,pull,undo.
I was given a non employee poaching contract to sign when I gave my notice at BIGCORP. It had some vague language like "I will not attempt to contact any BIGCORP employees with information about other positions". I'm in the process of moving some of my data storage from oracle to redis. Having already used Linq has made this easier. I had a pretty small data-model though. I think that in a large project switching databases is a large effort with or without ORM.
I'm sure anyone can come up with specific situations where writing SQL is much better than using ORM.
If I had infinite time and dev resources I would never use an ORM. In reality Entity Framework makes abstracting my data-layer very easy and increases my productivity. It also makes me feel much more comfortable about switching databases if necessary. Even if I'm taking a 5% performance hit it is totally worth it to me.

For example, I worked at a company where we made networking software for some military radios. We had a "Hardware Engineer" that fixed or returned radios that had stopped working. From all economist metrics this was not a bullshit job. He was using his engineering degree to do engineering work.
But in reality he added nothing to the productivity of the company. He actually reduced the productivity of the company by taking 3 days to do 5 minutes of work. I stopped using him and did it myself when he was at lunch. It is impossible to get metrics on bullshit level because it includes lots of nuances. For example, i'm sure this guy and his manager would say that only he was capable of doing the hardware work because he took a 1 hour course on electrostatic discharge.
It would take a lot of evidence gathering for me to prove that this was a bullshit job and once I did prove it his manager would have immediately assigned him some new responsibilities making my previous data worthless. This is a big problem with macro-economics. Economic Job data is limited to Salary,Title,Hour worked. It doesn't tell you much more than that.
