Mixed bag for me. I spent a day running in circles working on a github action based on lots of very bad info from chatGPT. I also just reviewed a PR that allowed for remote function execution. The dev that wrote the code has been very open about their use of AI. He thought it was good because he wasnt thinking.
This reminds me of My last year at university. At our final senior project we each had to give a group presentation. I remember this one group that showed off this VB6 program (which was considered outdated language even then). They didn't know how to run the program without opening visual studio and clicking run. They didn't even have basic understanding of compilation/run phases. They couldn't answer basic questions about the code. Obvious to everyone they copied the code. Yet they still passed the class.
I've mostly stopped using Facebook. Besides that last check on Sunday, I haven't used it since. I still have an account, but I don't know the password. I could easily reset it myself, but its just enough friction to make it a pain. I also now have someone accountable to (my wife) and that helps a lot as well.
Long time facebook addict. I was the kinda person that would check FB every 10 minutes -- yeah, it was a huge issue for me. I could tell it was effecting my work and job.
6 weeks ago I had my wife change my facebook password and log me out of everything. There was a genuine feeling of loss and withdrawal for the first 2 weeks. I felt very disconnected and felt like I was missing out. I asked my wife to sign me in on Sunday. I had 100+ notifications and a few messages. Only 1 direct message and 1 direct post - both from the same person about the same topic. Everything else was just junk.
It turns out that Facebook was providing nothing of value to me. It wasn't even connecting me to friends in a meaningful way. 2 messages relevant to me in 6 weeks. It is mind blowing how much time I was spending reading status and linked articles and looking at photos. Just wasting time and energy.
What a luxury these people have to complain and be worried about high income jobs coming to their town. The town I live in would fall all over itself to have Google build a campus here.
I like in Columbus, GA, which is right next to Fort Benning, one of the largest Army bases in USA. If these soldiers were included in the stats, then our numbers would look better.
I read the book and watched the documentary, "The Fabric of the Cosmos" by Brian Greene.
He gave a good explanation of time. Right before the big bang, the universe was in a 'perfectly' ordered state. Since the big bang the universe has become less and less 'perfect'. What we think of as Time is really just things getting less and less organized.
