The Rust crowd has this mentality that their code can be perfect (beyond even 'safe'), when in reality as long as your foundational system inputs and capacity aren't perfect, no downstream thing can be either. It's harder to see in user space but in the kernel you can't avoid reality. Hope the Rust crowd in general gets more moderate after this (or maybe not, but then that's only to the loss of Rust's long-term success).
Don't see what's wrong with it. He's leading one of the most high-profile and complex software system in the world with billions of users. If he was a softball all the time it'd be a mess. You have to be straightforward sometimes, or else people take too long to get the point.

Have to fully agree; just seems like a "cool" tool where if you had to actually use it for real world projects, it's going to slow you down significantly, and you'll only admit it once the honeymoon period is over.

Effectively, yes, the primary atheist deity is material and worldly pleasure. How that's particularly expressed is of course different per person, but the core is that the atheist follows the deity of their whims.
To be honest, he's not wrong. He did definitely come off as arrogant, but so would an electrical engineer saying all of this in an analogous way about your home electrician.

There is such a thing as being too haughty and thinking, "why not?". Given the impunity with which they're currently carrying out their massacres, it wouldn't have seemed to them that blowing up a media building would be problematic.
