This actually happened to me after connecting to wi-fi but there is a workaround that I found:

Convert your book to .azw3 in Calibre

Instead of sending it to the device in Calibre, locate the azw3 file (Right click -> Open book folder).

Copy the file to your Kindle, but not to the "documents" folder (where Calibre usually puts it) but rather into Downloads->Items

This folder is where books go when you buy them from Amazon or receive them after using the Send to Kindle feature. I have only tried this with azw3 so far but it might also work with .mobi format.

Could you elaborate on Canada's approach? Are you referring to adjustable rate mortgages?

I'm guessing the GP means that there will hopefully be an increased interest for alternatives to planes that one can take when there are air travel crises like this.

The article uses "new field" as a relative term -- a field that the researcher is not an expert in.

I also suffered from this issue for a while but then discovered "Unhook" browser extension, which in addition to many other amazing features (e.g. hide recommended videos/comments) has a feature to hide irrelevant search results. With the feature on I get an endless list of matching results and no junk.

There is an official browser extension from Amazon for this[0] that allows you to send any web page from browser to your Kindle in 2 clicks.

That’s great idea but might be much more difficult in practice than a common Slavic language. Turkic languages are way more diverse where you have some languages that are extremely similar and some that are not mutually intelligible with an exception of a small number of words (e.g. Turkish and Sakha). Maybe this means there can be several common languages with a smaller number of speakers in each.

Not the poster, but I concur that things weren't all that different in 2017. I would say that OP's reaction is caused by selectively remembering the state of the world. Living in the environment where mass media is ubiquitous, you don't quite realize just how bad things are or the negative effects it has on people. You only become aware of that after being removed from it for a period of time (e.g. being in prison) and then getting reintroduced to it.

My interpretation was that they were already looking to quit but didn't do so because of uncertainty of the pandemic. Supposedly, when the uncertainty resolves people in the resignation backlog will actually quit.

There is no CSS on the page. I have a feeling your comment was facetious though, hinting at the amount of bloat (e.g. Jekyll theme) we need today to do the simplest things.

One business process that is generally carved out well is customer support. Many large corps have offshore support centers. A sector that comes to mind is mobile-comm companies (e.g. T-Mobile).

I don't think that's what defines a polymath, for if it does, then none existed. My view of what makes one a polymath is deep --likely cutting-edge-- expertise in several disciplines.

That being said, I agree with the general sentiment that it is increasingly harder to become a polymath these days, especially in the disciplines with lots of active research. To have an expertise in just one discipline it takes years of education (to catch up with progress) and then a considerable recurrent investment of time to stay up-to-date.

If one is to be a polymath in a varied set of disciplines where overlap is minimal (see Leonardo), one would have to go through the mentioned process of acquiring and maintaining expertise for each discipline. This is different for a polymath in a set of closely-related disciplines, because there's only so much more (compared to being expert in one discipline) one needs to do to be a polymath because there's a lot of overlap. But it is debatable whether that even counts as a polymath, a point raised in:

Thanks for the explanation! I guess I was looking at it more from the perspective of merely making requests (without creds).

My understanding is that if an extension has a wildcard 'https://*' origin listed in its manifest, then it can make cookie-populated requests to any domain that matches the wildcard. That's actually pretty scary from privacy and security perspectives. But I suppose that's part of the reason CWS has moderation in the first place.

Maybe I'm naive but what if pushbullet.com was just running a server-side fetch and returning the result? That would bypass CORS, essentially acting as a proxy server.

I wonder how they will (did?) work around the keyboard shortcuts that Chrome reserves (and doesn't propagate to the page). For example, Cmd+T in VSCode opens up the quick search panel, while in Chrome it opens a new tab.
