Well, this is only for stubbing an API, you don’t build an actual API, so nothing in the filesystem is changed when you PUT, POST or DELETE.

What does change though is the state in the working memory, specifically in the stubb server process, by means of which you can change the response by using the response sequences described in the README. You might for example test a client-side deletion procedure, so you specify a stalling response sequence with two members. Your first DELETE request to /photos/5 will be responded to with the content described in the first sequence member (say 200 OK), while all further requests will be responded to with the content described in the second sequence member (say 404 NOT FOUND, using YAML frontmatter for specifying the HTTP status).

Please don’t vote for this article, it’s full of half-truths and misconceptions.

You can not “fake” scope. When you call `call` on a function and pass an object as an argument, you are calling the function as a method of that object. This has nothing to do with a function’s scope.

The National Geographic article, the author links to, states that

  The effects of the Chernobyl catastrophe are still being felt today—whole towns
  lie abandoned, and cancer rates in people living close to the affected areas
  are abnormally high

then goes on to say that

  But it turns out that the radioactive cloud may have a silver lining. Recent
  studies suggest that the 19-mile (30-kilometer) "exclusion zone" set up around
  the reactor has turned into a wildlife haven.

So basically, the accident at Chernobyl turned the area into a wildlife haven, because it was left to wild animals. If this were to mean that Chernobyl had a net positive effect, it would still contradict the author’s claim that there hasn’t been “much impact on the area around Chernobyl”.

a. “Orders” and “Jobs” both lead to only a sign-in form. I would expect some short information and more explicit motivation for signing up there. Does it make sense for the “Orders” item to even show up in the menu for unregistered users?

b. I would expect the Gravatar hash images to be rather confusing for people who do not know what Gravatar is.

May I seize the opportunity and ask why MySQL is the prototypical Open Source SQL database software (LAMP, etc.), when PostgreSQL is considered to be so much better?

I don’t think that you are short sighted.

I think Facebook et al. think they are “long sighted”, when in fact they are overly optimistic as to their longterm success. All this talking about how they will worry about making money later presupposes that they will be around later. I think there are more and more signs (e.g. myspace) that this will not be the case for a large percentage of these “successful” startups.

I agree. Consider twitter on the other hand.

I would argue that while it may have been introduced to solve a certain “problem” (communication hub for friends/local groups, “I want to have a dispatch service that connects us on our phones using text.”), its success comes from accidentally satisfying different needs.
