I was born in Bhopal, and was 15 months at the time when this incident happened.
Our family was one of the lucky one that survived with no injuries. It was a cold night and my mother decided to close the windows because she had an itchy throat. My mother suspects the itchy throat was probably the gas (can't say for sure if it is).
My grandfather recalls the next day, when went was out to buy milk in the early morning, having no clue as to what had happened the night before. There were dead animals all over the street, and birds were just falling out of the sky. Several of my grandfather's neighbors died, homeless living on the streets and on train and bus stations were dead.
> Honest question:- Does a typical Indian care about privacy/security?
It depends, what you mean by "privacy". A vast majority of Indians grow up in an environment with lack of privacy in personal life. Imagine 3-4 people (or more) in a family growing up in a 2 room accommodation.
Most people I know, have no issues giving away PII: phone numbers, addresses, income-tax identifier, aadhar (social security numbers, for those unaware).
> Also are privacy/security laws enforced as strongly in India as other parts of the world?
Not quite. Law enforcement, and the general public is not really aware of a lot of these laws. Right to privacy being a fundamental right was something that was debated in the courts in 2017.
I'm one of the developers who built this. For those of you wondering about the technology stack, here goes:
All commands entered from a browser are sent to a simple app. A WebSocket client receives commands from here and sends ACKs back to the server so it knows if the agent is "busy" running a command.
