I think you’re right about a lot of inauthentic mission statements, but I think crass swearing is the real “needless bullshit”.
Speculating about existential risk is certainly important, but way too easy to overstate. It can easily become distracting and actually dangerous in itself.
Specifically, the danger brought by hysteria. In our case, Alignment is probably much more effective and achievable when the widest possible community of researchers and engineers have access to knowledge, and much more perilous if they don’t because deluded parties thought it should be contained to a much smaller elite “secure” group.

I think about this a lot when working on teams. Everyone is not perfectly agreeable or has the same understanding or collective goals. Some may be suboptimal or prone to doing things you don’t prefer. But having a team is better than no team, so find the best way to accomplish goals with the one you have.
I have always agreed with Vinod Khosla about doctors. Much of what they do today should be replaced by AI.
My own opinion: their arrogance is the most offensive part of the situation. There are plenty of great doctors and surgeons out there, don’t get me wrong. But the majority seem to think they are a superior species.
It really depends. If the chat is high quality and actually doing something helpful, then I want to talk to it. The adoption rate and usage stats of ChatGPT disagree with the tile.

First of all, signs are definitely not "commonly ignored". The opposite is true. Right-of-way should be defendable in a fair court. Rules are the only way to do that. If two people see each other fine, what happens when they both "feel" right and enter each other's path?
They are a large portion of ER cases and ambulance calls. If you go to an ER in an urban area, especially late at night, there's always a few crazy people raving in some sort of episode.
