At least we now know what kind of precision our carriers can track us with, and we have our own copy of the data for verification/legal reasons if its ever needed..
I'd be happy if they applied their own interface standards to the App store and let me change the language. Just because I am in a German-speaking country, does not mean I want my computer to speak German. I've got the rest of my system language preferences set up just fine - why can't they use those standards, instead of having a whole different setting for the App store? Pathetic.
Plus, where are the preferences for the App store? Shouldn't there be a syspref?
I have a feeling that there are a lot of loose ends in the Apple development process for apps like App store .. and maybe they're leaving these ends open for future releases so everything can be "revolutionary" again. But for the most part, I feel like the App store app is, itself, pretty weak for a company supposedly as powerful as Apple is..
I've advocated this for depression, too .. if you think you are truly depressed, then get the hell out of your environment, and go somewhere else, completely and utterly different, immediately. It works.
MIDI is going to mean the iPad, with its touch interface, is going to be an excellent platform for soft synths and effects/DSP apps .. meaning less and less mousing around and a lot more intuitive performance in this, traditionally ultra-boring, realm.
These machines and the whole security theatre is simply this: a psy-op designed to produce more malleable citizens in the years to come.

Its quite satisfying to have both conditions occur in business, and quite possible no matter what Mr. Marx has to say about it. If you do something for someone that they are willing to pay you for, then congratulations: that is the nature of productive success in business.
A carte blanche war operation is a far worse thing to support. If you want the American War Machine to continue committing its crimes, by all means ignore this release.
I still have my BeBox, if only because back in the day I got a hell of a lot of good things done with it (reverse engineering of strange file systems, mostly) and without question I can still kick out some fully functional, performant, code with the thing. Old computers may be slow, but there is a hell of a lot of bloat in our computer worlds these days.

Well, this is more a statement about the condition of the tools themselves. We need fast multi-core machines to do the building and developing, simply because the tools blow.

So I think the answer is not just to reduce the speed available to the programmer, but to refine the tools. Too many programmers rely, nay depend, on big fat bloated code tools that still don't really deliver much more than the end results (see recent threads about IDE suckage) .. so I say: "Yes, give your developer slower PC's to code on, but also give them more basic, more efficient tools. Fire those that rely on the heavy bloatware too much to get their jobs done, and promote those who can deliver the goods, no matter the deployment/development hardware restraints you impose.."
Embedded systems programmer here, SIL-4 rated, working on critical systems for the transportation sector. ANSI C is absolutely a requirement in this sector, without question.
I've got a Zii Egg .. it so could have been a competitor to the iPad touch a year or two ago, if only the damned thing had been released to the mass market. As a developer, its terribly frustrating to put effort into this product and not see any users out there .. but I guess the problem really is that it takes a lot of effort to tool up the hardware production line.
Rumours have it that there is a "Zii Pad" device in the works, but until this gets released ..
I just don't see how its applicable to connect your experience with the fact that you started reddit .. I mean, fair enough, you have a lot of Internet celebrity credits, but you're spending them by telling the world details about your life that have no real bearing on your profession.
The moral of the story? I guess it is that you should always try to persist in life no matter what gets thrown at you. I just found myself realizing, in the middle of your post, that I was spending my life reading about someone I don't even vaguely know, talking about how sad they were that their dog died. Is this really what its all about?
Am I the only one who wishes all this personal stuff had nothing to do with the business?
Is it some new rule these days that startup founders have to prove they are 'real people' by sharing all the details of their lives? I mean, sure .. its sad to have to go through all that, but that stuff is personal.
This story really has very little to do with reddit, other than to serve as a social means of establishing 'personality' behind the scenes of the service.
