I read this a couple weeks ago and decided to try and find a math book that incorporates some history in it. I found Journey through Genius: The Great Theorems of Mathematics with some great reviews.
I am working on an iPad app that pairs up people to mentor each other through books like this. It has video chat and a shared whiteboard, so it is ideally suited for discussing math. Where do you host askgolang? I have been working on a go server with websockets too. It seems like websockets cause trouble with Heroku, Google App Engine, and AWS (if you use the ELB).
Everyone was pretty scared after the marathon bombing. In the days after, there were tons of bomb warnings as everyone reported anything even semi-suspicious. My neighbors even reported an Amazon package for me because it wasn't delivered by UPS!
Once there was a cop killed on our campus, followed by robberies and a car chase with bombs, things were looking pretty grim. If they weren't caught, the next few weeks would have felt very unsafe. After the drama with the lockdown and the suspects being caught then the atmosphere went from really insecure to people actually celebrating. If it was just a piece of theater, it was pretty effective.
This is helpful. We were fine with even equity splits or a slight difference because one cofounder is funding the venture. Sounds like even is preferred?
My theory is that the only reason businesses think Twitter is big is because of the large number of fake people. Of people that I personally know, only about a dozen are active Twitter users.
My experience with technical questions during interviews is that they did not need a deep understanding of any particular technology. Instead, they mostly rely on some knowledge of algorithms and data structures. Almost all of my coding questions came from the following classes I took at MIT:
Intro to Algorithms (6.006)
Design and Analysis of Algorithms (6.046)
Mathematics for Computer Science (6.042)
Take some version of those classes (maybe OCW, edX, or Coursera) and you will be good to go — at least for technical interviews. If you like reading then Introduction to Algorithms by Cormen, Leiserson, Rivest, and Stein is the book that these courses cover.
In MIT's Mathematics for Computer Scientists course (6.042), I remember learning from Tom Leighton that in certain cases randomly distributing jobs actually IS the optimal solution to load balancing. This technique was somehow associated with Akamai, Professor Leighton's company.
I am planning on creating a startup that would do something along these lines. This would be a great opportunity for me to learn about coaching through Skype. If you are interested, I would love to devote a few hours a week to code coaching.
I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I have been coding for 9 years or so now. What level are you at, and what level would you prefer your coach to be?
