I suggest a third option,
3) Use ssh style key login. You own the key, not Facebook/Google/Apple. You can lock the key locally with a password. One password for all websites. Only you know it. The password is not shared with others. You authenticate and encrypt in a cryptographically strong way that can't be defeated easily like SSL with "trusted" CAs can.
Good luck getting Google to implement THAT in chrome though.
