When we first started using Kotlin, it was like you said. The devs were eager to try all the new possibilites and apply them wherever possible. Resulting in sometimes needlessly complicated solutions. After the initial excitement faded, everyone is now much more conservative.
Kotlin is still very much appreciated by pretty much everyone. But now sometimes I even have to remind a coworker when there's a language feature or a built-in collection function that might help them.

OK Go identified the potential issue beforehand and found a solution that would work for them.
For me sunlight and some light exercise everyday were a game changer. I had tried Vitamin D supplements (1000 IU daily) before but there was barely any noticable effect.

In my last C++ project (it's been a while) we ended up including many of our dependencies in source as we required different versions, different build options or small modifications compared to the packaged version.
Most of the time we would create a minimal CMake file to build the library to our specs or adapt the existing CMake file.
There's a tiny grocery store just a five minute walk away from my apartment. I treat it like an extended fridge. Whenever I need something it's just a short trip away. So there's no need to overstock food at home for me.
But I get that not everybody has that opportunity.
The reminds me of the "bottomless bowls" experiment [0]. I know it from a TV show where it was recreated a few years ago but it was actually a real study.

In my experience some Germans are quite skeptical about technology when it comes to money. Cash is so simple, nothing can go wrong. Cash just works - always. Privacy is more of a bonus point. It's used as an argument a lot but I think Germans are so used to carry cash, it's just not perceived as a major annoyance.
