> vibe coding allowed me to figure out some rough edges of my design document, and experiment with "what would it look like built with threads? As async code? As procedural?”
This doesn’t fall under my understanding of the phrase “vibe coding”. In the tweet from Karpathy which many point to for coining the phrase, he says that when vibe coding you essentially “forget the code exists”. I think it’s distinct from regular ol LLM-assisted development
This is spreading quickly on social media but I don’t see anyone that I know to be reputable discussing it. I don’t even know where to begin researching how valid this is
Would feel similar if they weren’t the absolute worst in terms of privacy. And if they didn’t buy out the best VR commercial tech and tie it to FB. Can’t use the Quest or Raybans headsets without logging in to the panopticon.
I applied to some internships to 2 huge consulting firms everyone knows, got denied, and I wasn’t able to fill out able to apply to full time roles with the same email address a year later
My tool for this kind of problem in my own life has been writing lyrics / poetry. Poetry is nice because you don’t need to close any loops or structure a beginning, middle, and end. You just drop in, spit up some words that convey the core thought, and leave.
I use a second account to watch videos that i think will muck with my recommendations in any way I don’t like. Comedy, political news, music videos, etc… it’s nice to have a separate feed that gets my taste in these things without distracting my main algorithm from focusing on my deeper interests
> In this process though you will become a better human being. You will get better at living. You will have less pain down the road. Your path will be smoother.
I mean it’s hard to argue that you should do things that get in the way of this pursuit.
I agree with your sentiment, but I think your definition of self-improvement is off if it doesn’t include leisure, because finding healthy ways of incorporating leisure into your life definitely makes your “path” “smoother”.
Like, my ideal self isn’t a 100x engineer that sleeps at the office most nights. My ideal self spends time with his family, and cares for friends even if they don’t offer me anything tangible, and has hobbies that won’t result in measurable benefits to my “productivity”. So doing those things is self-improvement because I’m moving towards my own definition of success.
Agreed. Reading this I thought "all of these things are superficial, who cares?"
Who cares if movie posters and book titles are converging towards something that markets well? The parts that matter (the content, themes, style, etc) are probably very different among all those books/movies.
IMO Fashion like this exists just so that salesmen can convince consumers that they can buy The Current Thing and earn respect from their peers. Chasing the latest furniture, latest clothes, latest cars, etc.. It's all a shallow, costly signal of wealth that excludes the not-wealthy and distracts the wealthy from more fulfilling/productive pursuits.
If this trend means that fashion is dying, good riddance.
That is a disservice to society. Students and workers everywhere are forced to deal with stupid headlines on their OS 10 hours a day, while the people who make those machines get to opt-out. Ridiculous.
