You are probably right, the news is certainly driving a lot of it, but also these types of attacks are increasing in frequency because of the proliferation of connection points between industrial networks and the internet. There's just more industrial stuff that's out there.

Very, very interesting to see, especially for someone who lives in the Palo Alto area. From friends in real estate, the conversation at many of the town hall meetings break down to: existing property holders, and those who have moved to the area for work. So depressing to see, as it has second- and third-order effects in terms of who can come to SV to work. As the article points out, certain types of folks (e.g. those with families, or other financial obligations) are being priced out of the workforce. A total disaster.

For many years John Boyd and the "Fighter Mafia" helped to plan, build, test, and then manufacture fighters that had optimal "performance envelopes" that enabled them to maintain dominance in the sky. Those interested in Dahl might also be keen to note his career as a World War I flying ace, and then (again as a Military officer), World War II espionage agent sent by the British to nudge the Americans into war. As a member of the British Diplomatic Legation in Washington, DC he gained access to the Georgetown cocktail party circuit, and from there, helped build social consensus among many (including Mrs. Roosevelt) about the importance of an American entry into the War.
