Los Angeles (i.e. Hollywood) could be a strategic move given Amazon's massive push in original series and programming via Amazon Studios. Also, shares a coast with Seattle.
This is fascinating, especially whether the hole was created from a top impact or from the bottom such as volcanic eruption.
On another note, why are we discovering this just now? I was under the amateur impression that the entire surface of Mars was scanned and imaged by NASA at some point. But again, I may have interpreted that incorrectly.

Finally! This class was supposed to start in January 2012, hopefully all the technical kinks are worked out. Does anyone know what the issue was? I believe all the Stanford online learning classes were affected.
It's great to see these tools available on a cloud computing basis. Just make sure you read the ToS:

Personally I don't see the video format being a huge drawback, although having the in-video quizzes in HTML5 would be fantastic for tablets. It makes it convenient to learn the content and there is always the ff/rewind buttons. You can take notes.
These remote learning classes from Standford are somewhat new and there is some experimentation taking place, I would rather not see these classes be canceled due to lack of attendance.
All-in-all a great experience, I hope more universities follow suit in this open style of teaching.

A while back I had chosen bitbucket over GitHub because of the free private repository. And Git was not an absolute requirement, non-Git source control was absolutely fine.
GitHub still does not offer a private repo for free (currently private is $7/month), I imagine this may change at some point soon now.
Argh, very frustrating indeed. Yet another good reason to backup your online account data. Just because it's hosted externally by a "trustworthy" company doesn't mean your data will always be there.
