Regarding the system clipboard register: in OS X 10.8 the `"+` register no longer works. Has anyone found a way to get it working again?

Here is how you can paste the word under cursor to the command line:

  C-r-w

Handy for renaming variables with :%s/oldname/newname/g, for example.

Using VIM delights me everyday. However, I also work with Java codebases, and there Java IDEs are still relevant.

I've tried a VIM plugin on IntelliJ IDEA, but it doesn't work well. I'd like to use the VIM keybindings with IDEA for the sake of speed and enjoyment, but it seems that I should first contribute quite a lot of code for the IDEA VIM plugin to get it working properly.

How do you VIM lovers work with Java code bases?

You could, but setting up Eucalyptus is a lot of work, compared to Fake S3, a Ruby tool.

I have a degree in history. In addition, I've studied a few CS and higher math courses in the university.

The math, algorithm and data structure courses have been useful for my programming career.

I love coding, and I'm self-taught. I believe its possible to be a great programmer even without a formal degree, if you are passionate. The vice versa doesn't hold.

The course that I miss in the CS degree I dropped out is compilers.
