"Shadow DOM" has the wrong description, I think:
"Web Components is a suite of different technologies allowing you to create reusable custom elements — with their functionality encapsulated away from the rest of your code — and utilize them in your web apps."
The world has changed significantly since the 70ies, when such a moratorium worked. I don't think that it would in today's world, where information is more free than ever.
The opposite is true.
It is very hard to fire someone in Germany, at least compared to the US. When you compare the situation in Germany with that in Italy however - yeah, then you're right.
Since I'm German, this is probably at least the reason why I found it so easy to accept this construct, when I stumbled upon it in Ender's Game. It just felt natural, so my brain decided to use it in English, too. :)
