People in this thread got accustomed to the walled garden that is Macos so much that they don't realize KDEs philosophy. Literally every singular think in KDE is configurable even stuff you wouldn't have even thought about is.configurable.
The de to just use with default values is Gnome. If you want to have it however you want it you use Plasma.
Brave also still hijacks links and Braves tor implementation actually makes it easier to track you. Also generally the team has ignored fingerprinting issues since years that allow unique identification despite Eich saying they are so easy to fix (see my history on HN Eich even replied yet all those bugs are still open since multiple years)
I never got this logic. If it's about privacy they are obliged to proof that they are private especially with such a backstory. It's like Google saying "yes we are private" and then data share with the entirety of the US gov without any order. Why do you trust DDG did they do anything to earn your trust or is your trust that worthless?
So nobody will mention Mr. Weinberg business history. His last company used to accumulate private personal user info and then sell all to brokers and advertisers.
DDG and privacy is a literal oxymoron just like Brave and privacy are. Google and Microsoft Edge are more private even though neither has any privacy.
I can only repeat myself. If you are US based privacy is a literal oxymoron for you. Not saying that's not the case anywhere else but it's especially bad for US and it's biggest allies (Saudi Arabia and Israel).
I have spoken to a huge range of socioeconomic classes and the people that knew what DDG was explicitly said they could not care less. Obviously my sample size is minuscule but in EU generally people are perfectly aware of the spying yet don't really care (which I disagree with but that's how it is).
This just goes to show how suspicious DDG is acting which isn't surprising considering Mr. Weinbergs previous business.
DDG is based in the US. It doesn't matter what the company says wishes or hopes. It is by nature not private.
Also Mr. Weinberg (DDG owner) who has built himself a reputation for abusing user privacy for profit (his previous company just bulk seller private information it got from unsuspecting users).
Eich is one of the worst humans in the software industry. Put aside all the social and political problems with him even technically (Brave) he values profit over human decency.
