I previously worked for a company developing custom software some of Germany’s leading banks. Even (back in the nineties) when we had to use languages such as Natural and COBOL, we developed a macro language (that compiled to COBOL) to let us use more specific types.
Particularly in finance, yo need to distinguish between dates and durations, between interest rates and volatility and a host of other business concepts. Using strong user-defined types helps catch errors at compile time. I would have no problem, on a large project, with having every variable (with the possible exception of counters, etc.) being a user-defined type. On small projects, where one developer can comfortably oversee all of the code, the overhead of correctly defining types and their operations might not outweigh the benefits. In user-facing code, for example, UI frameworks don’t use business types. Writing conversion routines to translate user input to a business type can be a disproportionate amount of work for a small project.
I would vote for completely banning paywall posts. It annoys me no end when a post links to the Wall Street Journal or the Financial Times or suchlike.
That annoys me as well. What I find even more annoying are the questions designed to sow strife and discord, even when (or especially when) the premise of the question is patently false. All because because that drives engagement.
For me, it lets you know, of all the companies professing to put the customer first, which actually do. Some websites offer a one-click “No” option. Others require 27 different selections on two pages, in the hope that you miss one. And the Torquemadas of the Internet Age make you choose between light grey and dark grey for the selection on or off.
The strategy you outline is classic BATNA. Your BATNA is your best alternative to negotiated agreement - your walk-away position. The stronger that is, the more leverage you have in negotiating. By improving lead times, your friend improved his BATNA, as you say, so much that he no longer needed the negotiation.
I read many articles like this, protesting that Apple doesn't do this, Apple doesn't do that.
Apple isn't a monopoly, by any stretch of the imagination. 13% of the US market in Macs, 25% in mobile phones. Starbucks has a markup of 90%. Named brand spices, 100%. Hotel mini-bars, 400%. But Apple, which built the concept of an App Store, built the platform and the payment infrastructure, advertises and delivers the product, is somehow the bad guy for charging for it.
Have you tried asking Walmart how much you would have to pay to sell your product in their store?
I understand. Apple targets the high-end, so their consumers tend to be the well-heeled and hence a truly desirable market. It's like being a goat behind a fence, where all of the best green is on the other side. But, to leave the caprine behind us, what would you pay for access to a customer basis like the iPhones, including billing and distribution?
It's not as if you have to use the App Store. Deliver your apps via your own web page, advertise accordingly, and implement billing, with the attendant security.

Until you realise that there is minimal protection against wrongdoers, which makes your market skittish. Nor much support in the way of promotion. Still, most studies state that PC and Android are the way to go if you want peak sales.
Have you thought about AI and its applications to cybersecurity? Intrusion detection, vulnerability scanning, etc. Or crafting new threats or countermeasures.
