Thanks for this PSA, I feel dumb now. I just switched to a Linux laptop from a Mac at work and just mindlessly installed Docker Desktop like I did on Mac. Years ago I was a Linux know it all, but I've let myself go.
Try to use moby instead since that is the engine in Docker.

There's podman desktop which can be installed from flatpak and supports docker as well as other platforms, podman, k8s etc...
as an alternative

It's especially annoying on Qubes OS, where my GNU/Linux already runs in a VM.

They are probably making the assumption that Linux users who care are also more likely to be able to use alternatives to docker desktop.
