Personally the experience getting tickets at the moment is horrible.
Endless queues, scalpers grabbing tickets within a second. Having to wait days/weeks periodically checking to see if a ticket is available.
The only platform I’m aware of that does guarantee a ticket can be purchased if available is Dice once you join a wait list. You get given a reasonable time to purchase it in too.
So I can see why people would prefer to defer this to an agent and not care about the implementation, I personally would. In the past I’ve been able to script notifications for it for myself and can see more people benefiting from it.
As long as your workload can handle resuming again and your instances aren't heavily in-demand (looking at the eviction rates), the cost saving for us is substantial enough to take the occasional interruption.
I do wish Azure gave more than the 30 second eviction warning (like AWS) but still useable.
Would like to do the same myself.. sadly my domain regsitrar is Google, not too sure if I'll need to register another name (a .dev tld) or if there's an easy route of changing registrars.
This isn’t the free service though? It’s for the Google Maps API which does have a cost?
I remember trying to find some sort of point of interest API and having to quickly rule out Google after reading their terms. Stuff like “no caching” is somewhat painful.
Other platforms allow caching from a few weeks to a few months, they don’t have the reach of Google but at least have fairer terms (I’m not trying to build a competing Maps product here!).
Speaking for London, although many feel safe in the city. Most people (including me) aren’t stupid enough to get involved in a violent altercation if you happen to stumble across one.
It’d be foolish to get between 2 gangs fighting.
Alternatively if someone just collapsed on the street during rush hour, many will come over to help.
There’s probably a few causes for how we abuse alcohol in the UK.
1. Most pubs close relatively early (11pm-1am), so after work you don’t have too much time to spend before you have to decide between a club or home.
2. Anecdotally, although most people know their limits. I see people in my circles tend to drink at the rate of the fastest drinker and “catchup”, especially if doing rounds.
3. We do have a bit of a binge drinking culture. Our culture (in my opinion) tends to encourage getting drunk (as long as you don’t cause harm to others).
