I can't understand their reasoning. Why would they need an unlimited price cap on gTLDs? I can't imagine their expenses are that high and they're a non-profit so whats the incentive to increase gTLD pricing?
How can they be orthogonal when eventually you need open software of some kind to make a verification?
If the software I use to verify the closed source software is closed, then I will need another piece of software to verify that the verify-ing software is what it says it is and so on until we reach a piece of software that I can verify with my own eyes (or a friend has verified with their eyes).
We all eventually have to place our trust somewhere but we shouldn't have to agree with where you decided to trust.
Some people have pointed out that a lot of this doesn't work on iOS. I'd like to add that it also doesn't work for Firefox on Android. Instead you are re-directed to the App Store and get a pretty strange fallback page [1] if you don't use the App Store.
Interesting idea, especially if the site comes with the support of actual Hollywood studios. Anyone have more information about this? Website is pretty sparse...
I'll give it a shot. Its about a difference in expectations for success, specifically how Google's differ from its users.
So what obligation does Google have to keep the service alive? None. But the spirit and marketing of the site was to connect and create a community of people helping each other. And Google is going to destroy that community for (probably very reasonable) business reasons.
I guess I would like Google to give a warning that if a site doesn't reach some n DAUs then the service won't take off. It might give some people pause before putting a lot of work into something they ultimately don't have control over.
I feel users have a legitimate cause to be upset when a site is closed -- this was a real community that because Google couldn't make enough money off them, is gone.
This is really sad. I'm not from the Mission but I used to play pickup here all the time. Never had any problems. I hope they all just shut up and played together.
Venmo Receipt bill splitter: Mobile app that analyzes a picture of a receipt using tesseract or something similar and allows the user to charge Venmo friends for certain items on the receipt.
I would pay for this because then I wouldn't have to create a Venmo payment for each user.
