I hate to be That Guy, but speaking as someone who's actually had sex I can attest that there are actually other reasons. Like (and I can't believe I'm typing this) it's fun and makes you feel closer to the person you're doing it with.
While you'd be correct for people who are in a relationship, or actually have sex, the OP was talking about people who haven't had sex. The standard pissing contest of the average male in high school or college is based on someone having sex, or the amount of times someone has had sex, which is what he was referring to, and frankly, many people past this demographic continue to use the scale (think bros, Jersey Shore, etc).
We as a species tend to find sex important regardless. That's why when we see an attractive woman, we don't say "man, I'd like to sit down and have an intelligent conversation with her!" It's usually something more along the lines of wanting to tap that. It's primal nature, really.
I have to agree here. I had an XP install for 5 years with no problem, built a new computer with Vista that I upgraded to Windows 7 somewhere over the course of 3 years, and built another Windows 7 PC last year have yet to have a problem on it. The first computer I built is now repurposed as my parents computer and runs fine. My laptop has been running vista/7 dual booted with Ubuntu and has had no problems.
Conversely, I use an imac at work that is relatively new that runs horrifically slow and spends alot of the time I'm at working having programs or the whole system crash. Can't explain why, but that combined with what I feel as a much less user friendly interface compared to any Linux distro I've ever used has completely put me off ever owning a personal Mac.
The problem here is that pretty much everyone who visits HN already knows about SOPA. While it's a good move regardless, I highly doubt it's necessary.
And? Let's be honest here, even if this was done AFTER SOPA became an issue, it's chump change and hardly makes any difference. But this was all done before SOPA, and Google has already made their stance on it quite clear, hence why there is no more donations after June of this year.
Furthermore, we ALL know that politicians NEVER change their stances on anything! We all knew Smith was for SOPA since 1987 when he was first elected, which was clear-cut then and his stance has never changed! /Sarcasm
Though I don't disagree with you about adding to the discussion, I was applauding the author for actually verifying the accuracy of the story with an official source instead of just posting a link to a reddit thread that had nothing but a user-drawn image associated with it and assuming the "story" was true, which was what the previous story posting had done.
