I don't understand why it resets at universal jump engine. Is that the end of the game, or is there some way to end up in a different state? I got to the point where that was the only option left.
Does activity pub not use public key cryptography? (I don't know the answer to this but assumed it would have)
If each post is encrypted and signed by the author, and Sig chains are verified by servers when recieving updates that each link in the chain is an approved follower, then while posts could be more widely reshared by recipients, they wouldn't show up as from the original author, because the sharer and the Sig wouldn't match.
Seems to me this would be equivalent to using a centralised system like Facebook, where anyone with access to your posts can just copy paste to re share them.
I agree, and on top of that Google products used to be, in my experience of top notch quality.
But over the past couple of years I'm seeing more and more bugs in Google maps, chrome, and android. I think they've really let the quality bar slip.
They were/are in such a dominant position it's taking a long time to crumble, but crumbling they seem to be, slowly but surely.
I've been staunchly on the Android side of the Android / iOS question, but this carry-on with refusing to block tracking like Apple has done is really making me consider switching.
I wish they'd advertise it better.
I use Firefox mobile and it's so much better than Chrome I'd hate to go back.
If the mainstream were aware how much better advert-less browsing is, by using adblockers on Firefox mobile, that would probably solve the problem.
I'm also a fan of having the address bar at the bottom for easier reach, though I admit it's a niche thing that sounds like a gimmick.
I've been given the "we're a small start-up so can't afford to pay what you're currently on" line. I believed it at the time, and told them that's ok, I understand but I'm not willing to take such a big cut.
Then they multiplied the offer salary by 2.5X.
This dishonesty left me with such a bad taste in my mouth I no longer wanted to work for them and declined.
I've personally found honesty to be the most effective way to negotiate. Identify what you want, and what they want, then you've got nothing to hide and can have a grown up conversation to see if you can find a mutually beneficial agreement.
Just tried this out, looks great, I've wanted something like this for a long time!
I often use Cmd-tab to switch between apps on the mac, and I noticed that this search pane shows up in the tab switcher, which can get in the way a bit.
* In vscode, cmd-tab to chrome
* cmd-E to search for something
* cmd-E to close the search (goes back to chrome)
* cmd-tab to go back to vscode (but this goes to browserparrot)
> You can't sell all of a stock without the price crashing either.
Genuine question, are you sure about that? Assuming the stock is valued correctly, its value is equivalent to its future earnings, adjusted for time and uncertainty. Others who sell might bring the price down, but the real worth of the asset hasn't fundamentally changed, has it?
Contrast that with crypto, where the real value isn't grounded in anything except for supply/demand and it is worth only what others will pay.
I think this is an experiment. And given the current state of the internet in regards to fact checking, it's commendable that they are trying something to help address the issue. Maybe it won't work, if so, nothing lost.
I wonder if it will have any noticeable effect on Wikipedia though. By linking all of the conspiracy theorists to it, they might find that the articles get more contraversial editing going on.
His original plan was to donate 99% of his wealth to philanthropy. The problem was that would involve selling the majority of his fb shares, and he would no longer have control of the company. To solve this he would split the stock into voting and non voting rights which would allow him to sell the non voting ones and maintain control.
Now the claim is that the stock has increased so much this is no longer necessary. If I understand this correctly, that would mean that the excess shares he has over 50%, comprise 99% of his wealth, which can't be true because that excess is strictly less than 50%.
Or perhaps he's just conceded that he will actually give away control, it will just take 20 years to do so.
Now both whatsapp and Facebook have this, but surely they have the encryption keys too, or how else would they seamlessly fetch your messages and decrypt them when you get a new phone?
Personally, I did find it funny, but then I think it would be no less funny as "lol boyfriends amirite".
But I say this from the perspective of the less oppressed gender. I think if I were on the other side, perhaps I would be disheartened by little things like this.
I think we all know when you stop to think about it, that when you're frustrated, or seemingly on the "losing" side it is much easier to become angered and increasingly frustrated by even mostly insignificant actions of those on the "winning" side. With that in mind, I find it's best to try to be extra compassionate when you find yourself on the fortunate side of chance.
Sorry to detour from technical discussion, and I see the title is now changed. Great blog post! Nice no nonsense expansion.
