Note that "Contagion Health" AKA "I Move You" (YC S10), merged with "Health Month" to form "Habit Labs". No mention of the other "I Move You" founder Andrey Petrov. I wonder whether he's involved or not.
Both Verbling and Quartzy got TC coverage today, both are YC S11 startups I think, so I wonder why Quartzy got so much more attention than Verbling did.
This seems to be the first company from the 500 Startups accelerator program to be acquired. Other companies from the 500 Startups seed fund have previously been acquired, like BackType and CardMunch.
Nobody wants to be portrayed as elitist so I'm not so sure about this. Given 2 people who both have done impressive projects I would bet the one with the Stanford degree would be more likely to get in. It might even be a sub-conscious decision.
I think you need to define nudity and semi-nudity more.
1 - No nudity detected people fully clothed.
2 - Semi-nudity detected people fully clothed.
3 - Nudity detected private parts/gentials visible.
How can there be semi-nudity if people are fully clothed? Are female breasts considered nudity or semi-nudity? What about male breasts? What about pubic hair without display of genitals? There are so many gray areas you need to be more specific.
I submitted this with a "TechStars Boulder 2008" part added to the title, why was it removed? I see "YC" references to companies in titles all the time so isn't that relevant info?
You may want to if you're being stalked and you used your real name as your username, and there is personal info attached to your submissions that could help the stalker locate you. Not saying it's likely but it's possible.
The graphic on the about page is not correct because parts of groups can overlap as well. For example, some of my surfing buddies can be my closest friends.
As the community increases in size, it's normal for this 'decline' to appear. I believe rather than focus on tweaking karma points or moderation is to introduce list functionality ala twitter so people can create their own HN within HN, as they see fit. As newer HNers start contributing, they can be tracked and eventually added to lists so it doesn't stagnate. Doing this will ensure old-timers will be happy while the community gets bigger and the quality 'declines' relative to x years ago.
BTW, MarketBrief, formerly Secwatch, YC S11 was part of the old LaunchBox Digital accelerator in '09.
