Hey, I am in exactly same shoes. I am also in early phase of development of a search engine with only free, non-auth walled content, apart from blocking ad serving platforms. I would like to discuss and see if we can work together. Care to talk? Email in profile.
Slightly related, Does anyone have a virtual machine image of Ghome-Development environment that I can use straight away. I am on a corporate RHEL 6 machine, so it has been very tough to be able to get the development environment up and running there.
I am not even able to mame changes to gnome-terminator 1XX version because of this.
Its always the same set of problems. FPGAs take too long to synthesize, place and route. Not much internal visibility or its not trivial to dbeug. not enough capacity as chips are becoming bigger and bigger.
Slightly offtopic, I recently looked at all top free internet websites/services that I use and wondered which of them I would miss if advertising dollars dry up. For me, it turned out to be stackoverflow and Google. I truly hope stackoverflow is a profitable venture at this point. I hope they have been trying various avenues to make money but no o no one has any info on profitability. Job ads pay well, but there is fierce competition there.
I am starting market research on Zillow/Redfin Estimate Accuracy tracker. It is an interesting topic to help people understand how their zillow estimate varies over time and with similar sales nearby. I assume the product would be useful to agents and home owners. Since, zillow is getting into flipping houses, this number will be even more interesting. If you are interested, we can team up. Email in profile.
I agree with the incentives part. But, apparently, some AVMs(not necessarily Zillow) are used by mortgage lenders to adjust their risk models. In such cases, I would assume lenders will first want to find out information about accuracy(through third parties).
You are right that zillow used to show accuracy by zip code. But I am looking for more granular info.
This is close to what I am looking for but for server side issues. 400k subscribers is impressive. Mind telling how find these articles? Do you use a crawler of some sort? How well is the business doing? (if I may ask)
I agree with the keeping updated part. I am just looking for a starter list of sorts. Thanks for idea regarding calling youtube in the backend, atleast until I have enough data. I will do with it.
