My sister can do this— when she was learning to read she would figure out what words would sound like backwards, and over time learning both pronunciations just became the way she learned new words. She was amazed not everyone can do it.
This happened with clojupyter for me. I just gave everyone who submitted something good commit access, and a handful of people who are way better clojure coders than me made it way better in every way.
You can enable the prelude-evil.el module and start out with a nice set of bindings. It would be sweet if there were some more pull requests to make the evil-mode bindings in prelude more closely match vim.
I have experienced this a couple of times while meditating, I think turning off thoughts is a bad description. It is more like divorcing yourself from your thoughts. Your thoughts become just another something that is happening, like a sound, something not you but external to you. Once that happens enough times you get used to the weird feeling of observing yourself think and you notice that sometimes the thoughts just completely stop and there is nothing. You don't will it to happen it just suddenly does.
A lot of thinking is really useless, you worry about things you can't do anything about right now or just flit from thing to thing, it is pointless. When the flitting around thoughts stop you can use your mind more willfully, more like a tool.
Our group at Harvard is hiring; we are a group of about half a dozen programmers, statisticians and data analysts working as a bioinformatics core facility at the Harvard School of Public Health. We work on a wide range of interesting projects, most of which are directed towards identifying the causes of and curing diseases. The environment is awesome, the work is important and the group is amazing. As part of our work, we build infrastructure and tools to make future analyses of large scale biomedical omics data easier. That is where you will come in, we are looking for an experienced scientific programmer to join our group, working on scaling up existing analyses to handle the ever-expanding scale of genomics data. The work environment is very self-directed: we have a common focus and goals but nobody tells you what to do, we all care deeply about what we are working on and our group cohesion comes from that.
