this is something I wanted to add to a little side project I called routehacker.com, to create a wiki-like searchable db of mass transit routes. Will be taking a look at the maps api for this.
Steam makes it super easy to get games but installing it is friction?
I am a gamer with an interest in the indie sector but don't have steam because my first experience with that extra platform abstraction - Origin - has put me off. Neither do I want a game as a web page. I want a gaming experience and that for me is still a standalone executable. I even dislike not having a physical copy of digital distributions.
Agree, the lack of self awareness on some of these douchebag comments is unreal. Glad there's at least one well wisher here.
You've already pointed out the main jarring statements but here's another - 'Yahoo! is nonsensical' for closing down the app and integrating the tech into it's own products? Right, because that's not a tried and tested acquisition strategy in tech...
Flickr's on autosharing updates to Facebook is broken because the Yahoo! Updates platform it uses doesn't taken into account OAuth2 and finite life tokens. Basically it fails silently. My app tells you when you need to re-authorise and gives you a link to do it.
For a while now I've been pissed off with Flickr's own silent failing whenever it tries to auto-share my new image uploads to Facebook and doesn't have the smarts to take into account Facebook Graph uses OAuth2 and has an expiry on their access tokens. I also don't like the fact I had only one option (share all or none).
Flickoutr fixes all this, or at least attempts to. Built with the Flickr API it warns a user when they need to renew Facebook authentication for the app, and gives them a nice and simple url to click to do so. No fumbling about the Flickr help forum or Googling. It also allows Flickr users to share by tag or set.
And thanks to some good old fashioned feature creep, for Flickr Group admins it supports sharing to Facebook groups & pages too.
I signed up my domain for google apps as soon as I registed it about 3 hours ago. Must have been one of the last ones - I noticed they had taken the small text link on the apps homepage away and I had to click through to pricing to get the free version. Obviously Google had kicked off their deployment while I was registering.
Totally taking this as a sign for my next app btw.
