Hi, we (pindora.fi) have been doing HaaS now for some months and in my short and narrow experience at least it is not easy to have hardware upfront cost and then software subscription fee for _something new_ people have net learned to pay yet.
What if you would try to have "setup fee" and then "subscription fee"? Could that work?
I'm not currently coding because running a company, talking with customers, learning to build hardware, solving electricity and magnetic problems. Coding maybe every second week.
Just a sidenote that to build stuff that is "also easy to be repaired" is not that easy.
You need another new skilset from designers and mechanical designers to not only make small, beautiful and "easy to build and durable things" but also easy to fix things.
You also need more from the production chain to be able to ship parts and instructions how to change them. And ship them.
Things needs to be recyclable and should be fixable. Just saying, IMHO, that it is harder and I understand why in some stage it's not done.
You might like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis too. That is an awesome game. I like it as much as any of the films. (Or even more. There are at least 3 different ways to play it through.)
I'm quite surprised that big grocery companies are not doing this kind of services: If you get this working, one could argue that the "commitment" to "automatically" keep ordering from same shop and brand would be quite high - because it would be so easy. This, with home delivery would bring quite many new hours to a normal week/month.
