There is nothing in the article that suggests that accents lead to innovation. I'm not fully aware of the PG controversy but maybe he's privileged to some data that we aren't. Stating stats shouldn't be rebutted with fluff pieces.
As a scientist, even mentioning IQ is a good way to lose your career in the US. It's frustrating because the general population are turning to off-label drugs and supplements. 30% of college students are taking some sort of ADHD drugs for performance enhancement and even more when including nootropics.
In the end I think it is up to the parent to decide how their children turn out, even if I disagree with that decision. When someone chooses their mate they are doing the same thing, if only in a more crude way, and certainly we've all disagreed with someones mate choice in the past. This is really no different.
If I want to have a child, and the only way I'd be willing to have one is if it completely designed, I would want my child to be tall and intelligent. Some of the variants may be seen as detrimental to some people (HEXA), but I wouldn't want society deciding on that.
It's certainly true that a lot of principle investigators think this, but computing time is never free. A lot of the clusters have to win their own grants or fight for funding from the university. Nevertheless it looks like they are planning to include private cloud integration.
This is the third such study published within this year. The difference being that this study did full genome sequencing rather than exome (regions coding for proteins) sequencing.
