Can you please list those? I have been working on CIFS for over 5years and haven't come across any alternative for CIFS in AD environment. Are you thinking of LDAP?
Similar to this happens all the time in India. Seller1 sells his property to buyer1 and gives all the property papers after transaction. Before _registering_ this property with the government Buyer1 finds another Buyer2 and sells the property. Buyer1 now avoids paying tax which is what registering property is.
Similarly Wordweb (free version) asks 'if the user has flown in last one year', if the user answers 'yes', I think wordweb stops working. It's their way of showing environmental concern.
