China's official position is that virus was brought to China by US military rather than originating in a wet market. Hence they have to reopen them or otherwise admit that the wet markets were the actual source.
UK banned Huawei from all critical parts of their network, all sensitive locations (factories, military, energy, etc), as well as restricted market share to 30% elsewhere. They also officially labeled Huawei as the only provider that is a threat to national security. Even Beijing slammed their decision. Trump wanted to have the complete ban to go even further, but that wouldn't bring any practical value to the UK given the limitations they did impose.
This post is arguing that US is extremely behind in technological advancement because of historically insufficient focus on STEM education. However one might argue that US isn't actually that weak when it comes to tech. There are a good number of technology companies and research that came out of the US in the past 50 years.
