IO is an experiment. It's a free, lightweight editor for creative and authentic publishing. ️
It's extremely easy to use and allows you to publish anonymously, under a pseudonym, or as yourself. Our vision is to make writing and sharing your thoughts easier than ever. The editor is a little rough around the edges, so be gentle (many improvements are on the way!). We plan to build on this idea in the coming weeks and months.
This is your blank canvas.
This project (started only a couple weeks ago!) is brought to you by a very small team. We have much more to come in the near future! Meanwhile, please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions/suggestions or just want to talk product. :-)
Meanwhile, kick the tires at https://bold.io today, bookmark it for later and publish freely any time.
We spent a good amount of time compressing our blocking bundle size (html, JS, CSS), which actually is JS for the entire app, not just that page. Certainly have more work to do, but given the amount of code, our JS/CSS is pretty low.
I just compressed the large image and it dropped to ~430KB.
Meanwhile, the other large asset is the animated GIF, which I suppose we could switch to a looping webm/mp4. Was hard to reduce the GIF further and keep the same quality...
Your point is valid. This isn't ultra-high scale, just the name of the series I intend to publish more into. It's more about building a simple service for instant usage upon launch.
We also used Pusher for global in-app notifications, which had to scale past 1,000,000 concurrent connections.
Aside: 50000 concurrent requests on a single thread, huh? :) Unless I'm missing something, that's 50 seconds assuming a request takes only 1ms to process. Sounds like magic.
We've built a platform that brings more authenticity, self-awareness and empathy to the world. We've been the #1 app in Russia, China, Israel and Singapore and are violently growing.
We only hire builders and artists.
We are looking for another master iOS engineer to add to our team, and also frontend and backend engineers. We have massive scale and develop primarily in Java, Go, and Python.
We surround ourselves with people that make us better. We're not looking for people who count the hours at the office, but those who lose track of time in what they do best. We're building a product we truly love and want to build a team full of people who also love what they create every day. We’re currently a small team, which means you’ll own huge ideas from the very start.
Hard to quantify really. Often, it's not the exact knowledge that you use, but the byproduct of knowing something that helps you learn something new. For example, learning the nuances of a new language became much easier once I took a stab at implementing my own compilers.
I still had a LOT to learn, and Google is a fantastic place to soak up as much knowledge as possible. Mostly everything I learned about distributed systems came from Google.
As long as it's a multi-paradigm language. I'm not a huge Ruby fan, and you're right, Ruby at Google is almost non-existent. But I know a lot of developers like it, and a lot of companies look for it. So long as you master one of these languages and learn a couple others, I figured you'll be fine.
The idea is to get in the door. Unfortunately, the bouncer is extremely flawed and often gets it wrong. But once you're in, you should refocus on building things.
