It's a provocative title but I feel the logic is flawed. If you want to start a business, then do so. If you want to find a job, then do so. Focusing on what you're trying to achieve is more likely to produce results. Focusing on something else in the hope that it will have unintended consequences is just perverse and probably highly ineffective.
As some famous person said, I'm sorry this letter is so long but I did not have time to write a shorter one. Part of this topic is clearly about understanding your idea well. Given that, it is then necessary to put yourself in the position of your listener and figure out how best to present it in the shortest possible way without losing the 'magic'.
I agree. If you don't shine a light on all aspects of cyber-space, the only ones who know about it are the 'bad guys'. We all need to be more aware of the extra freedoms and the extra obligations the Internet imposes on us all.
What an intriguing idea is fostered by the longnow.org. I've heard of slow food but this moves it all on to a much longer time frame. Thanks for shining a light on these endeavours.
However buzz-worthy something may seem, sometimes it's best to move on. The future is so much where you should be investing your energy, rather than trying to score points off someone for whom you have lost respect anyway.
I'm all for simplicity but this solution is by no means a no-brainer. A major change in so many people's habits can only happen if there are only positives. This is doomed to failure. No wonder they closed Comments on this one in the Developers' Forum. It is always best to acknowledge your bloopers fast and Google should do so.
Even though it only has the MIT OCW data so far this is a most impressive and user-friendly interface. Congratulations, I'm sure it will appeal to a wide audience. Sorry but I'm not in your market niche so I do not know what's available from other institutions.
The comment on the 301 redirection is interesting. A 302 redirection would imply that the original URL should be maintained since the redirection to another URL is temporary and will be reversed. In this case, the next redirection when it comes along will be to yet another URL. Provided this process is maintained, what we have is a series of permanent redirections with never a reversion to a prior URL.
As is said, he sounds like an a great guy. However we should not accept what he says just because of that. The fact is that his business model will lead to success and that is what should sell it to other CEOs.
His picture looks very similar to the core values in the Lincoln Electric approach. They have achieved profitable success for over 100 years. What more could you ask?
The only reason I keep Firefox around is for the extensions. I only hope developers read this and notice that it may even be easier for Chrome and it's pretty much the same work for both. Thanks for spreading the word. I'm sure many of us will benefit from the results of your words.
Perhaps the biggest danger is a lack of any structure that encourages the reader to follow through the whole item. If you can give a teaser for the pot of gold that is buried at the end of the rainbow so much the better.
I find mind maps really help me enormously in getting that right structure. My first draft or two is purely at the Mind Map level. It's amazing how letting my thoughts simmer away suggests some new angle or aspect of the subject. I find FreeMind very user-friendly and I endorse it wholeheartedly. I have no connection with the creator(s). I'm just a very satisfied customer.
