Or perhaps they would consider that the duty of childbearing & childrearing is the fundamental, undeniable linchpin of any successful civilization, and that their abdication of that responsibility at once betrays their family, their society, and their own bodies? And that their reasoning for not rearing children is incredibly and venomously selfish?

If you wish to betray your lineage, your society, and yourselves, go ahead. Pathetically follow fashion and sterilize your body. But know this: You do not belong to yourself. You belong to your partner, then your family, then your town, and then your nation, and then the greater civilization. You betray all of them in order of ascending disgrace when you do not procreate. You are not an individual, and no matter how much obtuse justification you spout - your chest indignantly puffed out, in blind pride - you will never become a standalone machine of individual thought and biology.

But, it's stupid and immature fun to snub Mom and Dad (which are really just avatars of your shared culture), and why should anyone expect anything more from those spouting such vapid, empty nonsense?

So you've both decided that you're personally not willing to bear the vulnerability of children? You've decided that your own suffering would be too great? You've looked into the future, and you've seen the agony of bringing a child into the world, and what you have foreseen has been too much to bear?

Everyone is vulnerable; suffering and the pathetic, frail nature of existence is just that: The nature of existence. Whether it is being slaughtered by Mongols or suffocating from CO2, you are not god. Stop trying to make grand judgements about how much suffering is too much. It's pathetic, it's grandstanding, and it's avoiding the ultimate responsibility to replace the life on earth that you are currently consuming so selfishly.

6. Lexus ES in 2015

To have better sales than Tesla Model 3, you basically have to be a Nissan Sentra, Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, or some other extremely well-known line of cars from a reputable brand.

Who cares what these dead media companies have to say? Journalism in the 21st century has a glut of integrity, passion, and ethics. Elon Musk has an outsized amount of every one of those traits. I don't want to hear a snippet of a heated board room conversation; I don't want to read a rumor about who the next chairman of Tesla could be; I don't want to read any sanctimonious, scowling & contemptuous trash about men so great it boggles the mind. Wake up, 21st century San Fransisco dwelling technophiles & web developers: We have an enormous glut of people willing to stand up for truth, freedom, and greatness in America, and maybe we should all cover for our great men when they misstep instead of sneering about their personal lives or "erratic behaviour". We are a country of individuals and we would do well to police our criticisms of the rare individual who can do the thing that needs to be done - accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.

Unstable? Do you have any idea of the history of Elon Musk and his companies? Obviously you don't, and obviously you are talking out of your rear. You should read up about Tesla and SpaceX in 2008 if you want to learn about the conditions that might make a man unstable. Posts like these make HN readers look like vapid, patronizing high-schoolers.

I'm glad that this article has hot takes from two random investors! One says Elon has a 25% chance of staying CEO, the other says that Tesla won't be able to raise capital with this bad news. It's a terrifying reason to change the CoC because he does not want to appear racist. The mainstream media and Twitter hide the sane & reasonable people that oppose many diversity + inclusion measures, while showcasing the nastiest people from that side of the argument. Linus has taken that false image as the truth; he wants to separate himself from the people on that side. But the truth is that there are a greater number of people that oppose diversity, inclusivity, and equity efforts on the grounds that they trample an individual's moral authority & are based in Marxist lines of thought, than there are people who oppose those efforts because they have a deeply held prejudice.

It's truly sickening that the truth about diversity, inclusion, and equity is so muddled that even Linus can be deceived about it's nature. Fundamentally, the D.I.E. values are racist, Marxist, anti-capitalist, anti-merit, anti-competence at their core, and they pose a significant threat to modern working culture. Their threat is mostly their guise of compassion.

That was the product of necessary ideological conformity for their proposed system to work. Everyone who is not on board with the communist system could bring it down, so they shot dissenters. In Capitalism you can believe whatever you want to believe so long as you respect the rights of the individuals around you, and you don't incite violence, and a couple of other conditions.

Did the Communists not build tanks or burn coal? Is it Capitalism, or is it the human desire to take the path of least resistance; is it not human to consume ready-made energy that has been subsidized by the carbon capacity of the oceans and atmosphere?

It's not hilarious to thank Capitalism for lifting people out of tragedy - It's what has happened. Coal power plants in low income countries; iPhone factories creating an economic explosion in China; T-Shirt factories in Bangladesh. All of these things are the result of Capitalism and the free market, and participating countries are doing well. They are accepting some environmental damage, though. Consider that the company making the most progress in sustainable energy is, well, a capitalist company.

Alternate systems have not worked out so well, as you know. Communist planned economies led to the starvation of tens of millions, and that number increases to hundreds of millions when you add the persecution, jailing, and sometimes immediate execution of citizens of Communists states that had a history of political activity of the wrong sort. Recall that in Soviet Russia it was beneficial for each individual to "inform" on their neighbours to the KGB, so that they could claim their apartment. And it's suspected that Vladmir Putin is actually the richest person in the world.

Colonialism and slavery are pretty rough, but they are not a product of capitalism as much as a product of human malevolence and brutality. I'm sure you would find evidence of colonialism and slavery in pre-civilization times and in non-capitalist societies, so that argument falls flat.

Also, regarding the 8 richest individuals - If the rest of the world is getting on OK, why should we not have a couple of super rich people around? Why is that inherently bad? Why do _you_ think you should have a say of where that money belongs, exactly?
