I can relate to the article so much! Even though I'm familiar with node.js and npm, my approach to frontend is also index.html and script.js with no build tools. This way I can at least know how it all works and fix it when something breaks.
The article says that Kodak changed their film chemistry _not_ because of they were listening to the complaints from people of color, but rather because they were going to lose the business of two big professional clients: a chocolate company, and a furniture company.
