Like with tobacco may be privacy invading permissions need to be regulated a bit. May be a clear warning on what happens with your data will make consumers think a little bit more about prompts to handover your data.
Also, it might be interesting to see if certain permissions can have parental control. That is you need to be with your parent/guardian to allow certain data access.
Might be great to make it slightly difficult to gain sensitive permissions for everyone. Requiring to input your password/pin at the permission box. We already has these on desktop computers where you need to be able to input your password for admin access to apps. This may not deter companies to ask for permissions, but my hypothesis is that it will show up in their conversion funnels and eventually they will stop asking for blanket permissions to all your data.
Most of them are related to how and when your stocks are vested.
Most companies never IPO and get to a point where you can sell your stocks on secondary markets. So vesting period and terms of it are important.
For example - if you dont have accelerated vesting, you end up getting nothing when the company is acquired even at a good valuation. Depends on terms of acquisition as well and what happens to employee stock pool when acquisition happens.
More than percentages, it is the terms that matter. You can get a decent percentage of a early stage company, but end up making no money even if the company sells for 10-100x of the valuation at the time of stock options. Be sure you understand the terms.
I deleted Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, twitter, uber. I have stopped using chrome on my computer and device. I dont use google for most searches on my personal computer. I have gone back to relying on a RSS feed to keep up with the news. And have disabled all personalisation features on my google pixel 2.
It is impressive how truly evil companies are becoming in silicon valley.
I was recently at a Kent Beck talk (yow 2018). Where he went in great lengths to tell us how people can use facebook to elect fascists. I assume he means Trump. On the other hand, he also said that from the inside Facebook does not feel like it is doing anything nasty.
As a complete outsider to silicon valley - has valley basically become group think and finding it difficult to have discussions around morality and collective responsibility. Purely relying on "thought leaders", usually tech-journalists to drive these discussions?
Just because it is called Islamic development bank does not make it a religious organization. Point here is - look at the profiles of some of the organizations. Some of them based on fundamentals I am not sure I feel comfortable about. Also about catholic church in Africa, see Rwanda case https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Rwanda#1994_Genoci...
I tried looking for similar grants to religious services organizations from other religions, but my search came up empty. Very happy to stand corrected on this.
