Are there really government granted monopolies in the wireless space, or is the infrastructure cost too high of a barrier of entry for new participants?
Wine? That sounds like one of those gifts you give somebody that you really wanted to give to yourself. With engineers you'd be better off with beer, soda, or ganja. Wine is what you give to your marketing team.
OKCupid deserves some big congratulations. They built arguably the best dating site out there, at last the one that provides the most value for your dollar, without question.
Sure there's a potential that Match just won't get it, and will muddy the user experience. I'd like to think that instead Match is going to understand how awesome OKCupid's function set and design philosophy is, and apply that to their user base, and at worst case maybe just building a network of classifieds sites sort of how the Village Voice/Salon Personals works.
I bring well over a decades' worth of operations experience, experience starting and running four companies, two which flopped, and one which I merged into a company that I sold. I'm currently spending all of my free-time learning Ruby and Python, and will jump into Rails soon, and am hoping to collaborate with a more experienced web developer to jumpstart that learning curve.
I also don't come with the negativity and snarkiness you're demonstrating, but an open mind, a ton of energy, and a desire to build rather than to knock down and criticize others, something highly lacking in the tech community, as you're so readily proving.
Used to? I still do. San Francisco is too beautiful a city to not want to explore it's heights. If this scares you off, good, you're not the kinda person I want to collaborate with, but thanks for the advice!
